  • My name is Alex Millhouse-Smith, I am an artist interested in creating works that can absorb viewers. Themes such as chaos, escapism, phenomenology, participation and existentialism occur frequently in my practise. I create works that attempt to remove viewers from their normal surroundings, and place them into another sphere of life.

Wall. Flocked. And it was way easier than the dome.

I’m always in the process of collecting video footage to place within these holes. To take everyday occurrences or simple experiments then place them in an unusual situation gives them a new use. The running river video for instance; if i hadn’t have zoomed in close to fill the view with the running water, and if i hadn’t have rotated the image then it would still just look like a normal river, but to make these adjustments brings on new effects. They become ‘trippy’ images within the hole; if the viewer doesn’t recognise the images, they will wonder “What is in the hole?” This then draws the viewer’s mind into the hole, and into the unknown.
